5/20/11 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Friday

As I've said time and time again, all couples need time to "recharge."  Since having our baby I've never imagined I could love like this.  I've heard so many parents say this but I couldn't grasp this concept fully until I had my own.  However, my husband's 30th birthday is approaching and while I think we have an excellent marriage I know he misses "just us" time.  Really, so do I, it's just harder for me to take it then it is for him.  I get a lot of anxiety about leaving our son.  Just as physical health is important so is mental.  It's healthy for all mom's to get some "me" time as well as time away just with your partner.  So, I've decided the perfect gift for my husband this year is to take him away for the weekend.  We leave tonight to do all the things we love doing as a couple together:  hiking, canoeing, horseback riding, and swimming.  I think this will help revitalize and refresh both of us, making us better parents in the long run.  I'm looking forward to throwing away all the guilt for the weekend.  Too often I've blogged about all the roles I am:  teacher, mom, wife, daughter, grandaughter, and friend.  I feel spread so thinly.  The largest guilt I feel is towards dispersing my focus on my son, husband, dogs, and students.  You have no idea how great it's going to feel to just relax and have fun with my husband!  Some of my friends have babies that are 2 years old and STILL haven't gone a weekend away with their spouse.  I urge you to do even do a date night or evening away from your children to reignite your energy level and get away from the stress.
